Upgrade Spring Installation Tutorial

Required Materials:
Needle Nose Pliers
Crazy Glue

Step 1:
Remove shells as per Viewloader's instructions

Step 2:
Isolate the raceway and attached components

Step 3:

Using a small phillips head screw driver, remove the screw from the center of the drivecone

Step 4:

After removing the drivecone assembly, take this time to clean each part and make sure they are free of debris.

Step 5:

Using a pair of pliers bend one of the loops outward, making it into a hook.


Step 6:

Loop the newly formed hook through the tiny hole in the upper drivecone and tighten with a pair of pliers.

Ensure the spring is secure by giving it a light tug.

Step 7:
Now, carefully take the other end of the spring, and [using your needle nose pliers] lightly sqeeze the terminating loop to make it a small oval. Ideally, the size of the oval will be just big enough to fit over the little bump on the lower drive cone (where the original spring was attached).

Step 8:

Place the now oval end of the spring over the little bump on the lower drivecone and put a little bit of crazy glue over the top. Give it at least 30 minutes to dry properly.

Step 9:

Once the glue is dry, carefully put the drivecone back together the same way you took it apart. For further assistance, the diagram from the manual is below:
